How to protect your smartphone from hackers.

Research we conducted showed that most users (64%) only use the security that comes with the smartphone

Security really is in four parts.

1.Application Protection

  • Mobile app reputation provides risk-based scores for every app

Security that lets you know the riskiness of apps and their permissions is key to stopping hacking

  • Note : Apps for work have less risk than apps for personal use

  • Apps from 3rd party app stores are riskiest as most likely to be compromised – Free Angry Birds is anything but free

2.Web Protection

  • Many web-based threats, such as phishing, work regardless of the device

  • Increase in discovery of malicious mobile webpages and drive-by infections

  • Need security to protect you from this common way of using your browser to infect you with malware

3.Data Protection

  • Good idea to encrypt sensitive data – Apple and Android phones have this option – use it

  • Back up and sync frequently – ransomware for mobile phones is not here yet, but will be soon

4.Device Protection

  • Devices are commonly lost or stolen

  • Have security that lets you remotely scream, locate, lock and/or wipe

Key takeaways today:
Android malware is growing at a huge rate as are PUA –potentially unwanted apps and other suspicious apps. Most come from3rd party app stores but some fro ‘official’ Play and Amazon.

Today’s Android and iOS stats:

So if you have an Android phone you really, really need to protect it and even though Apple apps are trustworthy there are other browser attacks that are now appearing. So use Security on device and consider adding Mobile Security (free) or paid.
