Idera rolls out security, compliance monitoring tool

Idera, a vendor of tools for managing and protecting SQL Server installations, Tuesday announced server compliance and security software that lets organizations identify users with inappropriate access rights and permissions.

SQLsecure v1.1 provides automated security monitoring, analysis and reporting for SQL Server implementations. It lets customers identify users' access rights and permissions, eliminate security holes and track changes to access rights to ensure compliance with security audit standards.

The software also allows IT to audit the access controls and security-related properties of SQL Server installations. It lets them discover assigned and effective rights and permissions at the server, database or object level and select user group memberships to review inherited permissions. With SQLsecure, IT can build a server object tree and browse and analyze it. They can capture snapshots of the server object tree and identify changes to it.

Idera was founded in 2003 by Rick Pleczko, formerly of NetIQ and Mission Critical Software, and Mike Clark, formerly of PentaSafe Security Technologies. The company is funded by Austin Ventures. It counts among its customers PGP Industries, Chico's, Bloomberg, CyberTrader and the Associated Press.

SQLsecure v1.1 is US$1,000 per server monitored. It resides on any server running SQL Server.
