Secure Logic's acquisition of secure data centre specialist Computer Room Solutions (CRS) Group will mark a new direction for Australia's secure data-centre services industry by paving the way for novel integration of information-security systems with data-centre infrastructure, the company's founder has said in the wake of a merger that created a $140m Australian security player.
The appeal of CRS' core capabilities comes from its experience in delivering physical security designs – including building management systems, smart power reticulation systems, containerised models designed around Australian Signals Directorate government security standards, and the like.
This capability has given it chops in the market for large data-centre operators but Secure Logic founder and managing partner Santosh Devaraj told CSO Australia that broadening its appeal with new, integrated solutions – the first, a 'containerised” integrated security and infrastructure solution for cloud providers, is expected to hit the market by the end of September – would help it expand its market appeal.
“Integrated logical and physical offerings are something unique,” Devaraj explained. “There's a large amount of work nowadays where they are engaging with next-generation data centre equipment, but we can leverage what we do in information security and merge that into the physical layer as well.”
Such a managed security solution will handle security-monitoring and logging requirements as well as newer capabilities such as threat management, through a single centralised console designed to simplify management for infrastructure operators and large businesses such as banks, which maintain data-processing sites in multiple locations.
This characteristic will make the offering particularly strong across the APAC region, where security solutions are often implemented on a facility-by-facility basis and the type of integration expected from the newly merged companies would allow this to be extended across an entire network of disparate sites.
“This merger will provide consolidated aspects of the physical and virtual aspects of the world,” Devaraj said, noting that development had already been underway “for months” to leverage the two companies' respective technology strengths.
“The product we're going to launch will provide cloud services providers with the capability to think beyond just one big cloud. Compartmentalised cloud modelling is what we're working towards – and it gives great assurance for customers.”
Secure Logic, which serves as gatekeeper to the NSW Digital Community, has offices in Australia as well as Singapore, Shanghai, and Malaysia. Previous acquisitions of companies like Contingency Asia and Plush Hosting have fuelled its past growth, with its 3Si hosted-security and 'compliance-as-a-service' capability also helping fill out its offering.
Last year, the company signed a $1 million infrastructure contract to manage the NSW Electoral Commission's iVote online voting system.
“With CSR on board, the Secure Logic Group is now in an exciting position in the market,” Devaraj said, “being able to take on larger clients and continue to provide the necessary end-to-end security needs they require. With significant expansion in Australia, this market will be a key player for us in the months to come.”
