Cisco names new security chief after Young departs

14 year vet Goeckeler was instrumental in Sourcefire integration

Cisco has replaces its security leadership after the departure of Senior Vice President Chris Young.

David Goeckeler, a 14 year Cisco veteran, has been chosen as vice-president of the Security Business Group effective immediately. Young has "decided to leave Cisco," according to this blog post from Pankaj Patel, Cisco executive vice president and chief development officer.

Young had been with Cisco just shy of three years, having come over from VMware. He left to pursue other interests, a Cisco spokesperson said.

Goeckeler has been instrumental in defining Cisco's end-to-end security architecture, including the integration of the Sourcefire engineering team and the integration of security into the broader Cisco portfolio, the spokesperson stated.
