Indian cloud vendor secures data center with managed security

India-based data center and enterprise cloud-based services provider NxtGen Datacenter & Cloud Technologies has deployed Fortinet's security solutions and appliances at its data center to provide high-speed managed security services to businesses in India.

The solutions and appliances deployed include network security platform FortiGate, FortiManager for centralized network management, and centralized reporting appliance FortiAnalyzer.

NxtGen's services are provided either from its own Tier-III data center (HDDC) facilities, or deployed on on-premise data centers (OPDC) that are managed centrally. Together, the HDDCs and OPDCs form NxtGen's enterprise cloud services (ECS), comprising private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Customizable cloud security

The Fortinet deployment enables NxtGen to offer customizable cloud security services that gives customers the flexibility to set up firewall at their own preferences. Their enterprise cloud services also provide gateway level advance threat protection with traffic scanning and reporting.

NxtGen chose Fortinet over competing network security players for its "performance, effective single pane management and simple per-box licensing model," according to Fortinet in a media statement.

"We were looking for a network security vendor who could quickly and effectively help us start up a managed security services business," said A S Rajgopal, CEO of NxtGen.

"Fortinet has enabled us to meet many of our customers' needs with their high performing yet easy to manage solutions. Their simplified per box licensing also makes a lot of financial sense to managed security services providers."

By deploying FortiGate's network security platform at NxtGen's 24/7 command center, the service provider has created a virtualized security architecture for its host servers. The data center has enabled advanced threat protection by activating security features like IPS, application control, web filtering, VPN, WAN optimization and user authentication.

Centralized management

Using Fortinet's FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer appliances, NxtGen can centrally configure all its firewalls, and enable policy-based provisioning, update management and end-to-end network monitoring. This gives NxtGen complete control over its managed security services.

In addition, NxtGen is able to expand its range of managed services by providing secure access for remote employees, secure hosting services, secure private cloud and centrally managed on-premise data center solutions.

"Fortinet's high performing, manageable and cost effective network security platforms are well placed to help managed services providers cope with the rigorous demands of today's IT services industry," said Rajesh Maurya, Fortinet's country manager for India & SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation).
