1&1 adds new security features and better website performance to hosting packages

Partnership with CloudFlare brings advanced CDN features to websites

Web hosting provider 1&1 has announced a new partnership with CDN (content delivery network) firm CloudFlare to offer new features with certain hosting packages.

Benefits include improved loading times for both images and previously non-cacheable content. 1&1 lets website owners know when their site is loading slowly or when images aren't displayed correctly to help maintain their reputation.

The tie-in with CloudFlare includes the Mirage and Railgun features. Mirage analyses a web user's connection and screen size, (such as smartphone, desktop, tablet or laptop), to ensure that all images are being displayed effectively. Railgun is responsible for caching content so it loads quicker, meaning a better experience for visitors, no matter where in the world they're browsing.

Other improvements to hosting packages include support for PHP5.5 and the ability to install Click&Build apps on a trial basis. Plus 'SiteLock' is now included free in more packages allowing website owners to scan their website for design vulnerabilities and stay informed about their online security levels.

Site owners using web apps installed in 'Free mode' will be emailed about necessary updates and any other recommended actions to ensure their websites remain safe and secure.

CDN and SiteLock Basic are now included in 1&1 Unlimited packages, from £3.99 per month, and Unlimited Plus packages, from £4.99 per month. Mirage is included in all 1&1 CDN or 1&1 CDN Plus packages, while 1&1 Unlimited Plus packages and all 1&1 Managed Servers now include Railgun as part of the CDN.

1&1 Starter and 1&1 Basic customers can add SiteLock Basic for 99p per account or £4.99 for each 1&1 SiteLock Premium account. It's the same cost to add SiteLock to additional domains. More details can be found on 1&1's website.
