Telecommunications company, Gen-i, has become the first New Zealand-based ICT provider to have its information security assured to the ISAE 3402 standard following an independent assessment by Ernst and Young.
Formerly known as an SAS70 (and SSAE16 in the US), the IASE 3402 assurance standard is the international gold standard in management controls assurance. Achieving the accreditation required an assessment of Gen-i's information security policy, and a month-long report of its application.
According to Gen-i enterprise commercial and trans-Tasman general manager, Greg Mikkelsen, the telco invested in attaining assurance as information security is a priority for its business and government clients.
"Many of our clients undertake their own research of auditing to verify information security compliance as part of their procurement process, and there are significant time and monetary costs to this," Mikkelsen said.
"By gaining this assurance we can provide our clients with access to an independent report assessing our compliance, which provides peace of mind while reducing their procurement costs and speeding up their decision making process."
