How to see what your Facebook profile looks like to others

Wondering if your private pictures and posts are public? It's easy to find out!

If you've adjusted your Facebook privacy settings to something other than their defaults or use lists to organize your social circles, it's generally a good thing to know how your profile page appears to others. After all, you might not want the entire world to know of your woe-filled past relationships. Luckily for you, it's easy to do and it only takes a few steps.

While signed in to Facebook through the website, locate the Privacy Shortcuts menu button--it looks like a lock icon with three horizontal lines behind it--and select it.

From there, expand the "Who can see my stuff?" list and choose "View as" from the "What do other people see on my timeline?" section. This will take you do your profile page, but it'll show an extra black bar along the top that will let you pick and choose who do view your profile as.

By default, this tool will show you how your profile will look to the general public, but if you want to see how a particular person will see your profile, select View as Specific Person, and then type in someone's name.

To go back and see how it looks to the general public, select View as Public. To get out of this view, click the X button in the black bar across the top of your profile.
