Apple on offense over $100B offshore stash (Politco)
Yes, that's right: Politco. Tim Cook's giving interviews to political sites in advance of his testimony in front of the U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The topic? Offshore holdings by Apple and other companies. In his Politco interview, Cook categorically denied funneling domestic products overseas, and said that the company paid all of the taxes it owed. Furthermore, Cook apparently plans to make some suggestions about overhauling the tax code, which will finally let those salivating tech writers drag out the "Apple tax" headlines again.
Apple to open new store on Union Square (SFGate)
Apple's San Francisco flagship store may be moving on up, to a deluxe spot in the city's Union Square area. The move would mean a bigger store--which in drawings is depicted as a large glass-fronted silver box--staffed by more employees. Well, at least Apple has done the heavy lifting on figuring out where the next Microsoft Store will go.
Mac Spyware Found at Oslo Freedom Forum (F-Secure)
A new Mac spyware program may be making the rounds: It takes periodic screenshots and supposedly tries to contact a couple of websites. More interestingly, it's signed by an Apple Developer ID, which means maybe the PR firms for app developers have taken the "viral marketing" idea a step too far.
