An iOS 6.1 hack has been published online allowing users to bypass an iPhone 5's pin code.
A security hole in the latest version of Apple iOS 6.1 mobile operating system allows anyone to access voice mail, calls, contacts, photos and text messages. The video posted to YouTube shows how anyone can easily bypass the pin code, or passcode, on the lockscreen which many iPhone users have. See also: Apple iOS 6 review
The video, accompanied with step by step instructions, shows that Apple's passcode system isn't so secure. After a few simple stages the user must come close to turning the iPhone off and then make an emergency call. Watch the video below.
Once the hack is complete, users can listen to voice mails, make calls and browse photos through the contacts app. Navigation elsewhere sends the user back to the passcode screen.
The uploader said: "For prank your friends...For a magic show...Use it as you want, at your own risk, but... please... do not use this trick to do evil !!!"
Apple has reportedly acknowledged the security issue and promised a fix. "Apple takes user security very seriously. We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update." Apple told CNET. See iPhone 5S to arrive early 2013.
The site said that the hack did not work properly with the text alternative to the four digit pin code. Therefore, our advice is to switch to this method until Apple has released a software update with the fix.
