Conducted globally with PricewaterhouseCoopers between 19 February and 30 April 2010, the survey comprised responses from 12,847 technology and business executives from 130 countries in roles ranging from analyst to the chief executive or president of the company. With 754 respondents Australia ranked fifth in the world in terms of response.

Some 14.3 per cent (108) of Australian respondents identified as a CEO, president or managing director of a company; the majority of respondents sided with the business, rather than IT. The largest proportion of those surveyed in Australia hailed from financial services or consumer products and retail, representing about 10 per cent each.

Responses were collated and generalised across survey parameters such as company size, industry, and gross revenues. All data was collected centrally and securely, with individual names and information kept completely confidential. The statistics provided in this feature are used to identify high-level trends in Australian and global information security sectors.
